I just wanted to break the shackles. Strange that I was avoiding my painting room, where I find spending my time blissful. A few oil paintings on the easel unfinished, which I wanted to complete before the onset of the monsoon here; oil paint takes long to dry; infact the whole season! Alas! The rains have come and I am very angry with myself. So the other day I locked myself im my room looking for some inspiration. From my archive I found the perfect one. ‘Portrait painting in oil’ by Merlin Enabnit; one of the ‘How to draw’ series editions from Foster editions. Bought by me 42 years ago. I never got tiered of looking at the pages for hours. Such a splendid stroke filled paintings; sheer delight to view.
Well I chose one and tried to do it in water color, so that I can finish it before my spirit evoprates. Well I could hold my time just to 20 minutes. No sketching with pencil. Just desperate start with the paint. Over in 20 minutes.
I am posting this here.
My own assesment of this work…Rufus, miles and miles to go before you can produce any thing near to the original!!
Finally your back…… Dad, I remember you doing very similar work with the pastel crayons …. you should dig one of ‘em out and put it up …..
Also I’m assuming its a hereditary thing so you need to help me with break the shackles bit….. remember the “Our Ladys” painting we started together … well its hasn’t progressed one bit after I came back
